Worried about increasing the cost of your Cloud Services? Performing a cloud subscription audit enables organizations to streamline resources and achieve significant cost reductions. Here are my suggestions
Examine Cost Details – Scrutinize recent billing statements to grasp spending trends. Allocate expenses to specific departments or projects to identify high-spend areas.
Catalog Your Cloud Services – List all subscriptions -Match with department/resources – Document every active cloud service & subscription
Identify “Orphaned subscriptions”– List all active subscriptions and their associated resources – Identify resources not linked to any active services, such as unattached storage volumes or network interfaces
Delete Orphaned Resources – Depending on workloads, delete those subscription manually via Azure portal or automate the process using PowerShell script – For AWS, create Lambda functions to periodically check for and remove orphaned resources – You may implement automated scripts/tools to regularly detect and clean orphaned resources. Shut down services that are no longer required to eliminate associated costs.
Optimize Resource Utilization – Modify resource capacities to match actual usage, avoiding overpayment for unused services – Configure auto- scaling to align resource availability with demand, preventing overprovisioning – Use Reserved Instances for services with consistent use, explore for discounted rates on these instances
Budget threshold/Alerts – Define budget limits and set up alerts to monitor/control expenditures.
